Kuwait has a wealth of stories to tell. These stories run deep through the city and are embedded in its architecture, its urban fabric and its people. Madeenah is a multidisciplinary platform that aggregates this knowledge from its community of partners and participants through a number of spatial practices; taking experience as the central mode of knowledge production.
Madeenah curates walking tours and invites researchers and enthusiasts to explore and share their views on the interconnected relationships between society and the city. Through this process, Madeenah aims to build an interactive repository of cultural information. The importance of Madeenah lies in its avid promotion of alternative spatial practices in the region by acting as mediators and critical agents between both private and public entities and other key stakeholders in the future development of the city.

الكويت ثروة من الحكايات، تتنفسها جدران وطرقات المدينة العامرة والمهجورة. تستشف "مدينة" هذه الحكايات وتستكشف قيمتها الثقافية. "مدينة" مؤسسة ثقافية تركز على الإنتاج المعرفي المحلي، آخذين بالمنهج التجريبي كأساس للمعرفة.
يقوم فريق "مدينة" بتصميم جولات ثقافية يهدف من خلالها إلى تكوين تصور مختلف عن الواقع الحضري، كما يدعو الباحثين والمهتمين لملاحظة واكتشاف العلاقات المختلفة بين المجتمع والمدينة والمشاركة بالرأي والمعلومة وذلك من أجل بناء قاعدة بيانات تفاعلية. تهدف مؤسسة "مدينة" إلى تقديم بديل نقدي لمهنة التخطيط الحضري في هذا الإقليم من خلال العمل كأداة وصل بين الجهات الخاصة والحكومية وأصحاب القرار من المستثمرين وملاك الأراضي من أجل تحقيق مستقبل حضري أفضل للمدينة.

DEEMA ALGHUNAIM
Managing Director
Deema is the Founder of “Madeenah”; a multidisciplinary platform that curates cultural tours and delivers spatial studies. Deema obtained a Bachelor of Architecture from Kuwait University in 2008. She practiced architecture at alpha-architects and Kuwait Master Plan Department, Kuwait Municipality wherefore she co-curated the exhibition “Kethra”; Kuwait’s first participation in Venice Architectural Biennial 2012. She has also been a visiting teaching assistant at the College of Architecture in KU and worked on concept research and development at Raw Design Studio. Deema is interested in art, literature and translation, she has produced two solo exhibitions, besides her work on several projects related to creative writing and children's literature

ديمة مؤسس "مدينة"؛ مؤسسة تنظم جولات ثقافية وتقدم دراسات حضرية. حصلت ديمة على شهادة البكالريوس في العمارة عام ٢٠٠٨، ومارست مهنة العمارة في مكتب ألفا-معماريون ثم في قسم المخطط الهيكلي في بلدية الكويت. وفي عام ٢٠١٢ ساهمت ديمة في معرض "كثرة" كقيم مشارك، وهي المشاركة الأولى للكويت في بينالي فينيسيا للعمارة. كما تم انتدابها كمدرس مساعد في قسم العمارة بجامعة الكويت لبعض المواد. ديمة مهتمة بالفن والأدب والترجمة، وقد أقامت معرضين منفردين إلى جانب عملها في عدة مشاريع متعلقة بالكتابة الإبداعية وأدب الأطفال.

Creative Director
Sarah is a graduate of The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London; obtaining a Bsc.(Hons) in Architecture in 2007, followed by the Graduate Diploma and M.Arch in 2011. Sarah’s professional experience includes working for London-based as well as Kuwaiti architectural firms, such as AGi Architects. As a faculty member at the College of Architecture, Kuwait University, Sarah is an active promoter of teaching methods that consider the practice of design within a more contextual understanding of the built environment.

تخرجت سارة من مدرسة بارتلت للعمارة، الكلية الجامعية في لندن؛ حاصلة بذلك على درجة البكالريوس في العلوم مع مرتبة الشرف في العمارة عام ٢٠٠٧، ثم دبلوم التخرج ودرجة الماجستير في العمارة عام ٢٠١١. مارست سارة مهنة العمارة في مكاتب معمارية في لندن والكويت مثل AGi معماريون. تسعى سارة كعضوة في الهيئة التدريسية لكلية العمارة في جامعة الكويت إلى تطبيق أنظمة تعليم تجريبية تعتمد على فهم المحيط الحضري.

SARAH ALZOUMAN

Sarah has a BA in English Literature from Boston University and currently works in the field of international policy. After working as a journalist for Kuwait Times, she co-founded the freelance editing agency Edit-It. Sarah also worked as a program officer in the regional office of an international human rights organization, with a focus on family law. Passionate about education and languages, she has taught English as a second language at Kuwait University. Sarah is interested in how the urban environment can be preserved, planned, designed, and utilized to add value to the lives of its inhabitants.

سارة حاصلة على درجة البكالريوس في الأدب الإنجليزي من جامعة بوسطن وتعمل حاليًا في مجال السياسة العالمية. بعد عملها في مجال التحرير لدى كويت تايمز أسست بالشراكة "إديت إت" للتحرير. كما تعمل سارة كمنظم برامج في المكتب الإقليمي لمنظمة عالمية لحقوق الإنسان، بتركيز خاص على قوانين الأسرة. وكجانب من اهتمامها الخاص بالتعليم واللغة، قامت سارة بتدريس الإنجليزية كلغة ثانية في جامعة الكويت. تهتم سارة بالقيمة الثقافية للمحيط الحضري، وسبل المحافظة عليه من أجل السكان.

Design and Marketing Director
Suad is a Graphic Designer & part-time Teaching Assistant at the Department of Visual Communication, College of Architecture, Kuwait University; having completed her Masters of Arts degree in Graphic Design from London Metropolitan University in 2011. Suad was the layout designer for both Khaleejesque Magazine as well as Select, in addition to her freelance design work that include identity branding and illustration. She has a growing fascination for the built environment and finds that sports and outdoor activities instill in her a constant sense of creative engagement.

سعاد مصممة جرافيك ومساعد مدرس منتدب في قسم التواصل البصري في جامعة الكويت؛ بعد حصولها على درجة الماجستير في الفن في تصميم الجرافيك، عملت على تصميم مجلتي Khaleejesque و Select، بالإضافة إلى عملها الشخصي في تصميم العلامة التجارية (البراند) والرسم. تملك شغفًا بالبيئة الحضرية وتعتبر الرياضة والأنشطة الخارجية عاملًا أساسيًا في إنتاجها الإبداعي.
