Fahad AlSalem St

Fahad Al-Salem, or Jahra Street is one of the first modern streets in Kuwait and was planned as a place of commerce. Designed to display commodities, the street and its new modern buildings both served this function but moreover served the role of displaying and marketing the new Modern City.

Buildings built along Fahad AlSalem were used to export a particular image of modern life in Kuwait through postcards and in international magazines. A walk along this street will reveal these different scales of display; the urban, the architectural and the human. This walk will also showcase the new commodities that emerged after this urban shift and how these commodities reflect an age of the image.

Businesses such as travel agencies, photography studios and opticians, are also interestingly related to the faculty of attention, seeing and displaying.

شارع فهد السالم، أو شارع الجهراء يعد من أول شوارع الكويت الحديثة، حيث هدم السور الثالث و تم تخطيط الكويت لتسهيل حركة السيارات. شارع فهد السالم هو امتداد لخط التجارة القادم من الجهراء عبر بوابة الجهراء حيث تباع البضائع في ساحة الصفاة. إن البوابة القائمة في وسط دوار الجهراء -أو ما يعرف مجازًا بدوار الشيراتون- هي الأثر الدال على حدود المدينة القديمة لكنها الآن أصبحت معلمًا تاريخيًا يقع في قلب دوار ينفذ بالسيارات إلى شوارع شتى
