Shuwaikh Beach

The construction of borders are often forged by trading networks, the development of ports of commerce, and as a direct result of cultural exchange. These are a few of the many dynamics that can experienced through a walk by Shuwaikh’s coastal line. Stepping outside the old city walls was a political act of Modernity and power.  Moving away from the city center, was an economic and social gesture of independence from the previous dominant governance of the sea. In this tour Madeenah will be exploring the different definitions and forms of borders and how together, they draw an outline of a city’s future.

شاطئ الشويخ

نستطيع التماس تصور فريد لبُنية الحدود وتكوينها حسب حركة التجارة، وعلاقة تطور الميناء بالتبادل الثقافي، بمجرد التجول على امتداد شاطئ الشويخ. إن في الخروج من باب السور القديم تعبير أدائي للحداثة والقوة، كما في الابتعاد عن مركز المدينة تعبير اقتصادي واجتماعي عن التخلي عن حكم البحر الذي لطالما كان المصدر الأساسي للرزق. تستكشف "مدينة" أثناء جولتها المعاني والبُنى المختلفة لحالة الحدود وكيف ترسم تصورًا لمستقبل المدينة.
